my submission for the pxtunes 10th anniversary album is a new arrangement of "Waxwing".

the original piece was something i wrote at a time where i felt wistful about life; uncertain about the future, i moved through life reflecting on the past. i started working on Waxwing heavily inspired by "Gemini (Birthday Song)" by WHY?, which was a recurring emotional touchstone throughout my life, but the piece quickly took on a life of its own. honestly, it felt like such lightning in a bottle that i tried my damnedest to chase that same level of inspiration in all my subsequent work (to varying levels of success)
i would also be remiss if i did not mention myu's lyrical cover for secret porta of that year, which i feel is indelibly tied to Waxwing's identity (at least for me):

the three years since then would turn out to be so much more transformative for me than i could have imagined, though i never stopped revisiting Waxwing whenever i looked back at my most defining moments. and among those moments, i really cannot understate how much magfest 2025 (where i met jax, sides, ehm, & big red!) altered the course of my life; not just in the personal firsts i experienced there but also many, many important things directly downstream of that.
anyway, needless to say Waxwing was the natural choice for me to cover. i had a lot of big ideas and really wanted to do justice just how meaningful it is to me, and i struggled a lot! i've been much less musically-inclined these past few years and in some ways i don't feel like i'm the musician i used to be. but that's okay, i think, because i'm not the person i used to be, either. this version of Waxwing certainly reflects how my life has changed since i wrote the original, and to that end i think it's the most authentic thing i could have made for this album.
thank you for listening! and for using cobvoice. i am truly honoured to be a part of pxtone's legacy and, in whatever capacity, its future :)
